Orbital Intelligence for Environmental Monitoring

Transforming Earth observation into operational environmental intelligence.

Alf-Space

Alf-Space develops ORION, an environmental intelligence platform that combines satellite data, atmospheric modelling and artificial intelligence to detect, attribute and quantify methane emissions from energy and industrial infrastructure.

>80% target detection probability for CH4 emissions >= 500 kg/h
~100 kg/h long-term CLARA methane source detection objective
3 M€ funding sought for a 24-month development horizon
2040 vision for a sovereign European infrastructure
The problem

Fugitive methane emissions are fast to reduce, but still hard to operationalize.

Major incidents have shown that methane leaks can remain active for weeks or months before being properly identified and quantified. The challenge is no longer only to observe; it is to detect, attribute, quantify and prioritize action.

Detect emissions Identify affected assets Attribute emissions to their source Quantify flow rates Feed MRV frameworks Prioritize interventions
ORION + CLARA

ORION creates value. CLARA builds the barrier to entry.

The strategy combines immediate value creation through software and data services with long-term sovereignty through proprietary space-based observation capabilities.

Vision 2040

Vision 2040

By 2040, Alf-Space aims to contribute to a sovereign European environmental monitoring infrastructure from space. The goal is not only to produce imagery or maps, but to deliver operational intelligence: detect an emission, attribute it to a probable source, quantify its flow rate, track its evolution and help industrial or public actors decide faster.

The trajectory starts with ORION, using available satellite data, atmospheric modelling and artificial intelligence. It is progressively strengthened by CLARA, a miniaturized hyperspectral observation capability designed to improve revisit frequency, detection sensitivity and quantification accuracy.

This vision connects climate action, sovereignty and industrial competitiveness through a full European chain from space observation to decision-ready environmental intelligence.
